With the old nut it would hold a note for for approx .5 to 1 sec.The tusq improved the tone quality and gave it a more reasonable sustain time (3-5 seconds). It was easy to install. I only had to shave it slightly to achieve proper string height, also had to move the bridge out futher due to itonation issue at the 12 fret.
