Eventually will wear out but work well. This is my second set for the same banjo. The first set lasted around 12 years. I am not a professional musician and I would consider they get light use in my hands. The gears just wore out and they were not turning smoothly any more – which made them unreliable. There are better ones on the market (Keith comes to mind). However these are about 1/3 the price. If you are going to be a heavy user then you might want to look at a higher end product.
