An ultra-fine layer of EXP Coating is bonded to the phosphor bronze wrap wire which is then wound onto the hex-shaped core wire. The result is a built-in barrier against the corrosion and wear that can quickly sap the life out of your strings and your sound. EXP coated phosphor bronze mandolin strings have a natural round wound feel and sound fresh and bright with a “new string tone” that lasts three to four times longer than traditional guitar strings.

Coating and sizing perfection I just put these on my instrument and I can already hear and feel a difference. They sound so warm and pure, and just the right amount of earthy twang and jangle. They also feel much smoother under my fingertips. The increased size of the A and E courses is excellent too. My melodies sound stronger and of purer tone (amazing sustain), but my fingers don’t notice the increased size at all, so I’m not straining to fret either single notes, or even barring some chord forms. Very nice strings. Heavier treble strings combined with medium bass strings seem to pull a mellower sound from my Eastman md515 than the standard 74’s. After three months of playing several hours per day the G and D strings became difficult to keep in tune. With the uncoated 74’s I only got 30 days or so.before a string change was needed.And the fact that people like Chris Thile and Sierra Hull play similar gauges shouldn’t influence you.
